                                                                                 TCRA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

                                                                     

PURPOSE:  Provide financial assistance for post-secondary undergraduate level education to children and spouses of members in good standing of the Transportation Corps Regimental Association.  

 AMOUNT:   Up to $4,000 will be awarded annually to children of members in individual scholarship amounts of $1,000 depending on the number and qualification of applicants.  Up to one $1,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to a spouse of a member depending on the number and qualification of applicants.

CRITERIA: 

Scholarships will be awarded based on academic performance, SAT/ACT scores (high school students), extracurricular activities (ex. clubs, athletics ) leadership experience, community service, and work experience.  Letters of Recommendation from people in positions of responsibility are optional. 

Applicants are also required to submit a personal 500-750 word essay describing why he or she has chosen their current field of study, future personal goals, and how a TCRA Scholarship would be useful in achieving academic and personal goals.

Persons already under full scholarship to include Military Academies are not eligible.  Only one person in a family may be awarded a TCRA scholarship in each year.

PROCEDURE:  The TCRA President will convene a Selection Board to meet in April made up of at least three impartial members of the Executive Council. Names of applicants and their parent/spouse will be deleted from packets reviewed by the Board.  Board members will not consider information that does not meet the application deadline.  Board members will review packets in private and separately rank order children and spouses.  "Scholarships for children of members will be allocated primarily on the basis of applications received in the categories of high school and college students."  The TCRA Secretary will consolidate Board results using relative applicant rankings by each Board member and prepare Order of Merit Lists for the President’s approval. 

 NOTIFICATION:  The President will notify those selected and those not selected for a TCRA Scholarship. If a person selected does not begin college/university classes within six months of the award, the scholarship must be returned and may be re-awarded based on standing Order of Merit Lists.
